About Freestyle United Arts

Tae Kwon Do means the art of defense through hand and foot movements. Freestyle United Arts, The Eternal Art", is different from other forms of martial arts in that it blends aspects of Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Tai Chi, and Judo for total body exercise.  The art is always evolving and always changing.  This combination allows for grater speed and agility in movement and a fuller release of every individual’s potential.  A knowledge of practiced techniques rather than strength, weight or muscle power is the secret of it effectiveness.  The mental attitudes are equally important.  Active and passive forms of meditation and concentration are taught to allow you integrate your body, mind and spirit and create a wholeness within yourself and achieve a greater awareness of the world around you.  Emphasis is placed on respect for oneself, teacher, and fellow students.

Each class lasts one hour beginning with meditation and stretches.  The basic movements of Tae Kwon Do are then taught kick, punches and blocks.  Next comes learning the different Pal Gue’s.  The Pal Gue is a stylized pattern of basic moves composed as if one were fending off an imaginary group of attackers.  Light or No Contact sparring is also incorporated into the class to help demonstrate the practicality of each movement.  The class ends with a cool down.

Unlike many sports or exercise programs Tae Kwon Do is for everyone.  Men, women, teens, and children are capable of learning and benefiting from the martial arts.  The ability to defend oneself in any situation, with confidence, is an important asset to everyone at any age.

A Word From The Grand Master

The study of martial arts is about setting goals and achieving them, but along the way many treasures are uncovered.  Treasures that only a good martial artist has the ability to recognize.  As we dig deep into our subconscious and the treasures appear, we must polish them to a glorious shine.  The first treasure might be the awakening of one’s spirit and a new appreciation for life.  Next we might uncover some new physical abilities we didn’t know we had.  As we polish these skills we will certainly find some self confidence.  As we dig deeper we may find a treasure called ‘sensitivity” we must cherish and nurture it and be careful we don’t lose it.  We might discover a treasure chest of unique forms and when we unlock their true meaning, we will find some exciting self defense techniques.  Maybe if we dig deep enough we will leave something behind like ego, laziness, hatred and dishonesty.  Maybe we could replace these things with courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit.  So, let’s all go on a treasure hunt and share what we find with others on the path to self discovery.
