| | Aikido | Physical training goals pursued in conjunction with aikido include controlled relaxation, flexibility, and endurance, with less emphasis on strength training. In aikido, pushing or extending movements are much more common than pulling or contracting movements. This distinction can be applied to general fitness goals for the aikido practitioner. Certain anaerobic fitness activities such as weight training, emphasize contracting movements. In aikido, specific muscles or muscle groups are not isolated and worked to improve tone, mass, and power. Aikido-related training emphasizes the use of coordinated whole-body movement and balance similar to yoga or pilates. |
| Bunkai | Kata Bunkai - kata impressions - means "the combat application of a form." Although the traditional kata of Okinawan and Japanese karate are still taught in their original form, their true combat applications have been lost or kept secret by those who understand their deadly power. These applications are based on striking acupunture meridians and vital neurological points of the body and are designed to stun, cripple, or kill an attacker in a matter of seconds. |
| Karate | There are multiple benefits in Karate. Of course, the most obvious benefit is a knowledge of self defense which is one of the major reasons why systems were developed in the first place. Knowing how to defend oneself in a potentially dangerous situation is an asset in today's world just as it was hundreds of years ago. Training is not just about fighting. Many people take up martial arts for the fitness benefits as well. Training in karate will improve one's cardiovascular fitness as well as tone the muscular system. Strength will increase from the calisthenics usually employed within training but perhaps not to the same extent as working out with weights. But overall power of one's body will definitely increase since the techniques teach how to use strength effectively. Unlike many other forms of physical activity, karate improves the mind's focus but also helps in self control. Emotions such as anger and fear are better controlled through training. Many martial artists can find an inner peace through their training. In today's hectic world, these particular benefits are one of the most effective stress management tools available. |
| Kyusho-jitsu | Kyusho-jitsu is the martial art of pressure points also known by many other names such as dim mak, tien shueh, dim shueh, death touch, and vital point striking.Though the specific origins of kyusho are clouded in mystery, it is widely known that kyusho was discovered by the ancient Chinese through the practice of acupuncture and acupressure. Though originally used to heal, it was discovered that this was also an incredibly effective method for fighting applications. The use of nerve cavity striking and other weaknesses of the human body can give you a devastating advantage in combat, whether its for self defense, mixed martial arts, law enforcement or military applications. |
| Pentjak Silat | Pentjak Silat is an Indonesian martial art and began originally as a weapons style of combat. Pentjak Silat has borrowed much from its nearby neighbours of India and China, blending those fighting styles into their own. The result was a style containing kicking and striking techniques mixed with a variety of weapons techniques. The word "Pentjak" means; the body movements used in the training method and the word "Silat" means; the application of those movements or the actual "fight." Each style of Pentjak Silat has its own formal curriculum, history and traditions, some shrouded in secrecy and some open to the public. It is the applications or techniques for self-defense that make it useful. Many systems inter-relate, function and integrate as a whole. Every move, physical or mental is consistent with a certain belief system and fighting rationale, making it a devastating self-defense system. |
